Frequently Asked Questions about reflexology
Are there any conditions that should not be treated with reflexology?
There are only a few contra-indications for reflexology, these include: Deep Vein Thrombosis, certain medications, very recent surgery, infectious disorders of the feet such as athletes foot.
Some conditions need to be treated with caution and this is why full details are taken before a first treatment. If you are currently consulting a doctor or consultant about a particular condition my preference is to write to your GP to check they have no objections to you receiving treatment before we start. If you have any concerns you can discuss this before making an appointment.
How quickly does it work?
Occasionally clients will start to feel benefits after just one or two treatments but the majority of clients find that while they enjoy each treatment, they only start to feel the benefits after a course of 4 or 5 treatments.
I would like to try reflexology but I can't afford weekly treatments
I always let the client decide what their requirements are after discussion. Some people come for one treatment before deciding whether or not they want more. Some come for a course of weekly treatments and some come monthly right from the start.
I am pregnant - can I have reflexology?
Reflexology is extremely beneficial during pregnancy and can help to relieve many of the discomforts of pregnancy. While reflexology is believed to be safe at all stages of a stable pregnancy, many clients prefer not to start treatments during the first trimester - its a case of personal choice.
I have ticklish feet and am worried that I wouldn't enjoy reflexology
Many people have this concern and are usually surprised that they find the treatment so relaxing and soothing. The touch used in the treatment, although gentle, is not at all like tickling. If you have particularly sensitive feet please let me know and I will spend some extra time at the beginning of the treatment with extra relaxation techniques and letting your feet become accustomed to my touch.
