What will happen at my reflexology treatment?
A normal mobile treatment lasts approximately one hour and 10 minutes including set up and consultation. The first visit includes a more in-depth consultation and you should generally allow about 1 hour and 30 minutes for this first treatment. There is however no extra charge for this time, a first treatment costs the same as subsequent ones. You will be asked about your medical history and present conditions before the treatment begins. You will also be able to ask any questions you may have.
Only your shoes and socks will need to be removed an you will be seated in a reclining chair in order to raise your feet to my level to work on. The treatment will be given by applying a suitable medium to the feet, generally a massage oil, and massaging both feet and applying pressure to specific areas using the fingers and thumbs. The pressure used is firm but gentle and most people find it extremely pleasant. Any tender spots on the feet are an indication of an imbalance in the corresponding part of the body and so will be given further attention during the treatment to restore balance. The tenderness often eases during the treatment. While the treatment will focus on those areas which are out of balance, a full treatment is always given as Reflexology is a holistic therapy which means that the whole person is treated, not just a condition.
At the end of the treatment your needs and future treatments will be discussed. Many people come for a course of weekly treatments (about 6). After that they often choose to come for monthly or even fortnightly treatments in order to maintain the benefits they have felt.
How will I feel during a reflexology treatment?
Different people react in different ways to treatment. You may notice a sense of well being and feel deeply relaxed. You may feel more tired than usual, tearful or nauseous, experience a headache or have other mild, temporary symptoms as the body rids itself of toxins and begins the healing process. This is nothing to worry about and is a positive sign that the treatment is working. It is advisable to drink plenty of water after a treatment, avoid heavy meals and, if possible, to rest.
